Local Service Opportunities

Looking to volunteer your time? Itching to live out the corporal works of mercy and attend to the needs of the poorest of the poor in our city? These opportunities often take us out of our comfort zone, but can also provide a much needed monthly perspective-change!

Operation Leftover

3rd Thursday of the month, 6:30pm @ St. John the Evangelist Church

(126 W Georgia St, Indianapolis, IN 46225)

Serve the homeless in downtown Indianapolis. Go out with food, drinks, info pamphlets and a willing spirit to meet the homeless where they are at with groups of Young Adults.

More and more every day, God calls us to be disciples to the people around us—classmates, co-workers, and even strangers we encounter on the street. Operation Leftover offers an opportunity to meet and socialize with the homeless and impoverished in Indianapolis. Once a month, Operation Leftover gathers food, secondhand clothing, and other toiletries to distribute to those in need in the downtown Indianapolis area.

“Roll outs” happen the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, 126 W Georgia St, Indianapolis, IN 46225.

During a “Rollout,” we hit the streets of Indianapolis and socialize with those who may be impoverished or whose basics needs are not being met.  By providing fellowship, sharing faith, and providing resources to our brothers and sisters out on the street, we can empower them to get to where they need to be.

Hearts & Hands

2nd Wednesday of the month, 3-5pm @ Hearts & Hands of Indiana

(337 N Warman Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46222)

317-353-3605

*This office is located in the rectory of St. Anthony Parish. Please call ahead to notify staff members when you are planning to volunteer.

Our Mission is helping families and individuals attain affordable, long-term homeownership in the near-west side of Indianapolis by providing education, mentoring, and quality rehabilitated homes. We are driven by our faith and closely rooted in the Saint Anthony's Parish. Help us succeed by helping out in our office or with rehabilitation

Who and How We Serve

The Haughville and Hawthorne neighborhoods (just west of the Indianapolis Zoo/ IUPUI area) is an area of Indianapolis that needs our help. The median income in this neighborhood is just $27,000. And, 1 in 5 houses (20%) in this neighborhood are vacant. Our goal is to rehabilitate these houses, transforming them into quality, safe homes that new homeowners will be proud to call their own. To do this, we connect with community partners, like the Indianapolis Housing Partnership, to give potential homeowners the education and support they need to succeed. We also connect with parishes around the city and other community organizations that have related missions.

We need your help!

With such a small staff of just 3, we need all the help we can get in our office to continue serving our community. Join us in our office to help assemble marketing packets, send thank you letters, and file important documents. We invite volunteers to join us on the second Wednesday of each month from 3- 5 pm to support our efforts. Don't worry; we will provide the coffee!

Prefer to get your hands dirty?

We invite volunteer groups of 5-20 to help with rehabilitation projects. Reach out to us to schedule your group this summer or fall!
